PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The purpose of the Norwood Basketball Association (NBA) intramural program is to create an enjoyable youth basketball program that is open to every Norwood child, in grades K-8, regardless of skill level.  The program shall not in any way discriminate as to who shall participate in regards to race, color, creed, religious affiliation, sex, or ability and skill in playing basketball. Any and all members of the community are welcome to participate.

The program begins the first Saturday in December and concludes the first weekend in March.  The following gym locations are utilized: Civic Center, Savage Center and the Coakley Junior Middle School.

It is the intent of the NBA to conduct its intramural program as an instructional and recreational basketball league. At its' core, intramurals is designed as a participatory basketball league. All players are expected to play in games and participate in practice in an equal manner. Playing time is never to be allocated or extended to a player because of his or her ability to play or lack of ability.

The NBA is therefore a developmental basketball program designed to teach "skills through drills". It is intended to be fun for the players and coaches. It is a competitive environment but it is not intended to place undue pressure on players to win games, rather it is important that they feel that they learned how to play the game better by developing their own skills in an athletic and social environment.
